For a weekend every year in June, Kimberley comes alive with the Round the Mountain Festival. There are races for runners, trekers, kids and cyclists in seven different categories. Registration for the June 26, 2016 was capped at 500 participants and the event sold out yet again.
If you don't feel up to the challenge, join the after race festivities with local food and drinks at the Nordic Centre.
The 20km running and mountain biking course wraps all the way around North Star Mountain, Kimberley Alpine Resort's ski hill. The terrain is varried and the scenery spectacular.
The trail system is open to hikers, trail runners and cyclist all summer long outside of the festival. The trails are also used in the winter as a rugged cross country route.
